Hall of Fame Reading Challenge
The Hall of Fame Reading Challenge is a statewide literacy movement that transforms reading into a championship experience for K–6 students by pairing joyful, competitive reading with the themes of sports, teamwork, and achievement; it supplies culturally relevant books to classrooms and families, celebrates student growth at a culminating event, and builds community excitement around literacy. Designed to confront urgent needs—declining early-grade reading proficiency, limited access to engaging identity-affirming books, gaps in motivation and confidence, and the need for family support—the Challenge increases reading volume, strengthens comprehension, and fosters lasting reading habits and joy.
“Show me a family of readers, and I will show you the people who move the world.”- Napoléon Bonaparte
First Round:
Richardson ISD, Frisco ISD and McKinney IDS
On March 12 and 13, KG’s Kids proudly hosted the preliminary round of the 1st Annual KG’s Kids Hall of Fame Reading Challenge, bringing together entire fifth-grade classes from five North Texas elementary schools for two exciting days of reading celebration and competition. The first round was a high-energy game centered on the book Dogtown, engaging students in teamwork, comprehension, and a love of reading. Participating schools included Corbell Elementary and Gunstream Elementary from Frisco ISD, Richland Elementary from Richardson ISD, and Malvern Elementary and Burks Elementary from McKinney ISD, all of whom contributed enthusiasm and strong representation to a memorable community literacy event.
Final Round:
The Final Round took place at SMU
The KG’s Kids Hall of Fame Reading Challenge finals took place April 16 on the Southern Methodist University campus, hosted in the SMU football team meeting room, where a high‑energy championship game centered on the book Magnolia Wu Unfolds It All tested students’ comprehension, critical thinking, and attention to detail. Officiated by SMU alumnus and current NFL tight end Kylen Granson, the finals were the centerpiece of Hall of Fame Championship Week; in partnership with SMU Football, KG’s Kids also hosted an exclusive VIP experience at the final SMU spring practice on Friday, April 18, and every student from the participating elementary schools received a VIP ticket valid for them and their family. Designed to celebrate achievement, inspire students, and create lasting memories for students, school staff, and families, the events combined academic rigor with community celebration and meaningful recognition of young readers’ accomplishments.
